The next generation of OLED lighting for the home or work

Korean researchers have recently reported advances in OLED technology. OLED, or Organic Light-Emitting Diodes, promise panels as flexible as paper, the ability to be bent into curved shapes and even being incorporated into clothing.
OLED is a potential light source, because they are thin, lightweight, energy efficient, and using environmentally friendly materials.
Philips and LG Chemical have started producing panels providing non-glare, UV-free light.

“Imagine illuminating your home with flat, inexpensive panels or sheets that are environmentally friendly, visually pleasing, and energy efficient.”

The Korean reasearch team demonstrated good electrical, optical, and mechanical performance. (The technology incorporates graphene, conducting polymers, silver nano wires, and dielectric-metal-dielectric multilayer structures.
Obstacles remain to commercialisation, however further research is being performed to address challenges in relation to cost, processing time and increasing durability
